Pastoring

Christians in community create a more just and peaceful society. We need more of this.

Pastoring at Broadmoor

In January 2020, I was approved by the Committee on Ministry of the Presbytery of San Francisco to serve as the pastor at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church while completing my ordination requirements. Two months later, I found myself pastoring in a pandemic.

Through incredible creativity with Session and the community, we continue bringing the Word every Sunday. I began Zoom meditation groups, fellowship nights, and youth game nights.

Closing the church building to worship necessitated I develop remarkable technological skills to employ and provide continuity, comfort and care to our community throughout this extended crisis.

Holy Humor

Weaving comedy and ritual, I created a Holy Humor Worship Service. Alongside my juggling partner, Mr. Mustache, we bring joy, play, and wonder into the sanctuary. Pre-pandemic, we brought this worship service into churches across the Bay Area (pictured: Rev Jenny Warner at Portola Valley Presbyterian Church).

This intergenerational worship experience brings that often forgotten beatitude to life, “Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused.”

Seminary Graduate

I graduated with a Master’s of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 2019. While completing the necessary classes for graduation and ordination, I focused on art in worship. I also discovered my passion for interfaith chaplaincy work.

Internship at Sleepy Hollow Presbyterian Church

In 2017 I plunged into a year-long internship under the guidance of Rev Bev Brewster at Sleeping Hollow Presbyterian Church, San Anselmo. While interning, I preached monthly, provided pastoral care, attended session meetings, and prepared the Mexico Mission Team with cultural sensitivity training.

Beyonce Mass

It was a privilege to assist in the production and leadership of the University of Redlands Beyoncé Mass in January 2019. My Old Testament Professor, Rev Dr Yolanda Norton, and fellow classmates created this vital and life-giving worship service.

Beyoncé Mass is a womanist worship service. Womanism recognizes and celebrates the lives, beauty, culture, spirituality, and experiences of Black women and is committed to the survival, well-being, and wholeness of all people. The worship service uses Beyoncé’s life and music as a tool to engender positive, empowering conversations about Black women.
